home from the hospital

Emmy was admitted to the hospital late Sunday night. I was actually really grateful for that because that entire day leading up to her internment was frightening. Thursday evening she started a fever, then Saturday morning she woke up with croup. Her fever got up to 104.5. Then by Sunday she was really struggling to breathe. Bryant took her to urgent care in the morning while I stayed home with Peter. The breathing treatment they gave her at urgent care helped her enough to fall asleep at nap time, but when she woke up she was back to struggling for breath. Then her throat started hurting bad enough that she refused to swallow anything: water, food, medicine, even her own saliva. Finally we decided to take her back to urgent care. She got another breathing treatment, but then they sent her to the ER where she was examined once again, found to have the beginnings of an infection in her ear and lung as well as croup and was admitted to the hospital. She ended up staying two nights there with nurses and doctors constantly checking on her, giving her meds, keeping her hooked up to monitors, etc. I'm sure you can imagine how well a two year old handled being confined to a cage of a bed for two days. Not very well.
Sadly, the doctor says that Emmy is likely to end up in the hospital every time she gets croup.

This experience in the hospital made me so grateful for the healthy children that I have. Yeah, they get sick every once in awhile, but I know there are parents whose kids suffer from much more serious sicknesses and it makes me hurt for them and especially their little sweethearts.

so cute, but so sad.
proof that she was confined to a cage. not fun. both bryant and i slept in there with her on separate nights. once again, not fun.
so glad to be home.
